  • Using an air purifier is a great first step toward transforming your indoor air. Here's a few things that you can do to master your air purifier.

We recommend using these guidelines to receive the greatest benefit from am Alen Air Purifier:

    Use It 24/7

It may go without saying, but your air purifier can only do its work when it's on. You'd be surprised how quickly clean air goes back to dirty when you turn your air purifier off. As many tests have shown, and our own research has confirmed, an average room can take less than 20 minutes to go from clean air to dirty.

Therefore, we always recommend that you keep your air purifier running around the clock on at least the lowest speed (higher is better). Our air purifiers and filters are designed with constant use in mind, so you can rest easy knowing that your air is clean all the time.

Quick Tip: If you are turning the air purifier on after an extended absence, turn it to the highest setting to "turbo-charge" the cleaning process. With the BreatheSmart and BreatheSmart Fit50, the auto setting will do this for you if it senses that your air is dirty!

    Change the Filter

While the fan in your air purifier circulates the air, it’s the filter that does the hard work of transforming your air from pollutant-laden to fresh and pure. And just like the oil in your car, if you go too long without changing your air filter, your unit’s performance and effectiveness will begin to decline.  There's two ways you can know it's time for a filter change:

    1. The date. Each filter we make has a recommended use life. If you've been using it longer then that recommended time, it's time for a new filter.
    2. The timer. Each of our units has a filter life timer that will let you know when it's time to change your filter. In our newest units, the BreatheSmart family, that filter timer is not only taking into account how long you've been using it, but how dirty the air is as it works. So if you're filter has been working extra hard, it will let you know that you need to replace it a bit earlier. Likewise, if it has been filtering relatively clean air, the timer will automatically adjust.

Remember, changing the filter at the recommend time will help you get the most out of your investment.

    Placement, Placement, Placement

By far the easiest way to optimize your air purifier's performance is to simply know where to put it.

    • If you've bought your first air purifier, put it in the bedroom. You spend a significant amount of time in your bedroom, so purifying your air there will have the biggest "bang for the buck".
    • Next, choose other high traffic areas of your home like the living room or kitchen, especially if those places are sources of irritants (like cooking or pet odors). In larger rooms, a larger air purifier may be more appropriate to be sure that you have the coverage you need.
    • Within a room, try not to put the air purifier where any of its inlets or outlets are blocked. This will help the air purifier fully clean the room and optimize air flow. If you have a T500, you can also use the unit like a standing fan, so point it where you want a cool breeze!
